The 3D model of Little Foot’s reconstructed face, published in Palevol (https://sciencepress.mnhn.fr/fr/periodiques/comptes-rendus-palevol/25/3) and available on MorphoSource (https://www.morphosource.org/projects/00000C632), was printed by Jérôme Surault.
This model was generated from images acquired at the Diamond Light Source synchrotron in 2019. (https://www.diamond.ac.uk/Home/News/LatestNews/2021/02-03-21.html).
The facial bone fragments were then segmented using the free software Biomedisa. (https://biomedisa.info/).
After 3D mesh corrections in Geomagic Wrap, the file was imported into the Ideamaker slicer, which generated the G-code containing all the printing parameters and characteristics (extruder path, speeds, temperatures, etc.).
The skull prototype was produced using PLA-Pro filament (layer thickness: 0.2 mm) with the Raise 3D Pro2+ printer in 49 hours.
