Paleontological field mission in the Miocene basins of Morocco

General research question
Several vertebrate fossil sites have been discovered in the Miocene deposits of this basin. New surveys aim to improve our understanding of the role of North Africa in the evolutionary history of African mammalian communities during the Late Miocene. The region has fossil potential comparable to that of other countries such as Chad and Kenya.
Selected results
Since 2008, our team has been conducting extensive paleontological and geological research in the Miocene continental basins of Morocco.
Recently, field surveys have led to the discovery of sites rich in micro- and large-mammal remains.
Mission structure
The research mission is led by PALEVOPRIM as part of an international collaboration between the University of Poitiers and Kenitra University.
