The imaging facility at PALEVOPRIM consists of several computer and graphics workstations that enable all kinds of 3D data processing, including volume and surface manipulation and analysis. The software used includes both commercial and open-source solutions, depending on the 3D file formats (tomographic or microtomographic slices, volumetric or surface data, etc.): Avizo, 3D Slicer, Geomagic Wrap, MeshLab, ImageJ/Fiji, RStudio, Blender, CloudCompare, and others.
Activities
3D image processing is now at the heart of our discipline, both in terms of collecting raw data (anatomical features of fossil or osteological material, osteological models for comparative analyses) and in terms of shape analysis (geometric morphometrics, analysis of internal structures, reconstruction and retrodeformation of fossil material, etc.).
Funding
Equipment funded by the CNRS, the University of Poitiers, and the Poitou-Charentes Region.
