This training course, offered by the PALEVOPRIM laboratory (UMR 7262, University of Poitiers & CNRS Ecology & Environment), aims to provide knowledge and skills in the use of 3D imaging tools in the natural sciences, from the acquisition and processing of virtual data (surface and internal structures of an object) to statistical analyses, in order to address a specific research question.

You will be trained in surface scanning of biological objects at various resolutions using portable 3D scanners such as the Artec Space Spider and intraoral scanners. You will also be introduced to the principles of X-ray scanning of anatomical specimens (bony and dental skeletal elements, soft tissues), enabling non-invasive access to their internal structures (CT, micro-CT, synchrotron imaging).

Virtual models are intended both to provide scientific data and to serve as essential archives for data sharing among researchers, for the preservation and enhancement of original specimens, and for teaching in the natural sciences (educational resources).
