New data on Late Miocene colobines from East Africa
The Miocene Nakali Formation (Suguta Valley, Kenya) has yielded numerous remains of colobine monkeys, including several partial skeletons, which provide new insights into the ecological preferences and phylogenetic relationships of Microcolobus, the oldest known colobine monkey.
Through morphometric analyses combined with multivariate statistical analyses, I identified postcranial adaptations related to arboreal climbing in Microcolobus, as well as a mosaic of craniodental and postcranial features supporting the hypothesis that it belongs to the colobine stem group.
